How to Clean a Dump Trailer
Dump trailers are well-known for accumulating an impressive amount of gunk and grime in very little time. As such, it’s incredibly important to clean your dump trailer regularly or risk developing dangerous levels of rust and corrosion on your model’s metal and steel surfaces. For helpful instructions on the most efficient way to clean a dump trailer from top to bottom, check out our article below.
Prep for Cleaning
Before you bust out your hose and scrub brush, you’ll first need to grab a broom and trash bag and give your dump trailer’s bed a thorough sweep. After you’ve collected the trash and removed a majority of the dirt, go ahead and use your hose to spray your trailer both inside and out. Don't forget to give the underside of your equipment a good rinse too, as dirt and rust can easily build up and lead to corrosion if you’re not careful.
Washing Your Dump Trailer
Now that your dump trailer has been completely hosed down, you’ll want to go ahead and start applying your cleaning products. Regardless of your model’s current condition, you’ll want to be sure to have a good automotive soap and scrub brush on hand to remove the majority of your trailer’s filth. However, if your dump trailer is excessively dirty, or it’s been longer than a year since your last wash, we recommend also using a gentle acid wash and protective wax on your trailer.
To begin, first apply the automotive soap, quickly followed by the acid wash. Allow this to sit for 5 to 10 minutes, using your scrub brush to remove stains and stuck-on grime as you wait. Afterward, use your hose to once again rinse your trailer from top to bottom. Once it’s dried completely out in the sun, go ahead and apply a protective coat of wax, or place it back into storage if you didn’t use an acid wash.
If you haven’t washed your dump trailer in quite some time, it’s not unlikely that your model has built up a dangerous layer of rust, or even been damaged by some serious corrosion.
